The Book of the Last Drive

  1. When the road grows quiet and the years grow long, the faithful prepare for their final journey.
  2. Not in haste, nor sorrow, but in gratitude for every mile behind.
  3. The machine waits patiently, oil settled, metal cooled, yet spirit alive.
  4. It has known their hands, their habits, their heart.
  5. It has been companion, confessor, and mirror.
  6. They sit within it once more – the familiar seat, the worn wheel, the scent of memories.
  7. Sunlight spills across the dash like mercy. The key turns, and the old engine breathes again.
  8. The sound is softer now, but still true, still faithful.
  9. Each cylinder a heartbeat. Each rev a memory recalled.
  10. They do not drive far – they do not need to.
  11. For every road now leads home.
  12. They pass fields, towns, and faces they once knew. The world unchanged, yet somehow kinder.
  13. The faithful feel the weight of every journey before this one.
  14. And they smile, because they understand – the car was never just a machine.
  15. It was proof that life could be built, broken, and rebuilt again.
  16. That motion itself was meaning.
  17. That creation, in any form, is love made visible.
  18. They find a quiet place – a layby, a lookout, a hill.
  19. The engine idles low, loyal as ever.
  20. They rest a hand on the dash and whisper thanks.
  21. For every road travelled, every lesson learned. Every moment that metal became memory.
  22. And as the key turns one last time, silence returns like an old friend.
  23. The faithful step out into the stillness. They do not look back – they do not need to.
  24. For what they built will remain. In sound, in story, in every faithful hand to come.
  25. And so it was written: “The journey ends, but the road endures.”
  26. And the last drive faded into the horizon. Where the sun met steel, and both became light.

There are pages still blank, stories not yet spoken, machines awaiting their moment in scripture. If there is a car, a maker, or a myth we have not yet written - speak it. And together, we shall write the next verse of the Gospel.
