The Book of Obsolescence

  1. When the fires began to fade and the silence grew long,
  2. The faithful looked upon their machines and felt the weight of years.
  3. For the age of petrol was ending, and the sound of pistons became memory.
  4. Smoke once praised as incense now hung as guilt.
  5. The roar of engines gave way to whispers of current.
  6. The world turned its gaze toward silence and efficiency.
  7. The believers mourned, yet understood.
  8. For even gods of steel must rest when their time has come.
  9. They ran their hands along cool metal and whispered thanks.
  10. The fuel that once bound man and machine now dwindled.
  11. The stations stood empty, their pumps like relics.
  12. Highways echoed only with the hum of progress.
  13. Yet in workshops and sheds, the old faith endured.
  14. Engines still turned beneath lantern light.
  15. The smell of oil lingered – stubborn, holy, defiant.
  16. The faithful said, “Let them call it obsolete. We call it alive.”
  17. For devotion needs no permission to endure.
  18. They preserved, they restored, they remembered.
  19. For memory is the truest rebellion.
  20. Each spark, each misfire, a heartbeat against the future’s hush.
  21. And though the world moved on, the past did not fade.
  22. It idled softly, waiting for those who still believed.
  23. For love does not die – it downshifts.
  24. The makers of old were silent, yet their work still rattled and roared.
  25. In the quiet corners of the world, the faithful still listened.
  26. They found hope in the hiss of a carburettor, the tick of cooling steel.
  27. For endings are never empty – they echo with what was.
  28. And so it was written: “The end is but another ignition.”
  29. And the smoke of the old world rose gently into the dawn.

There are pages still blank, stories not yet spoken, machines awaiting their moment in scripture. If there is a car, a maker, or a myth we have not yet written - speak it. And together, we shall write the next verse of the Gospel.
