The Book of Holden

  1. In the years that followed, another maker rose from the farthest shore,
  2. A kingdom of craftsmen beneath the Southern Cross.
  3. They looked upon the red earth and said, “Let us build not for luxury, but for the land itself.”
  4. And behold – the Holden was born, strong of frame and faithful of heart.
  5. It toiled through heat and dust, over corrugations and creek beds.
  6. The people looked upon it and saw themselves reflected in its steel.
  7. From paddocks to cities it carried the nation’s load,
  8. A servant, a companion, a symbol of pride.
  9. And the people gave thanks, saying, “It is ours, and it is good.”
  10. The lion and stone became its mark,
  11. A promise of strength and endurance.
  12. And the roads of Australia became its kingdom.
  13. At Bathurst it roared upon the mountain,
  14. Its rivals close behind, its glory echoing through the valleys.
  15. Men and women cheered from the fences and the flats,
  16. For the red cars of Holden had become legends of the land.
  17. Yet beyond the borders others took notice,
  18. For Holden was not merely a badge, but a belief.
  19. It stood for work and for family, for freedom and for fight.
  20. But the world grew restless, and the age of change drew near.
  21. The factories fell silent, and the forges grew cold.
  22. The faithful mourned, for the heart of their homeland ceased to beat.
  23. Still, in sheds and backyards the spirit endures.
  24. The faithful polish their machines and share stories of glory past.
  25. For though the maker is gone, the name is spoken in reverence.
  26. And so it was written: “As long as the mountain echoes, the roar of Holden shall be heard.”

The Book Not Yet Written

There are pages still blank, stories not yet spoken, machines awaiting their moment in scripture. If there is a car, a maker, or a myth we have not yet written - speak it. And together, we shall write the next verse of the Gospel.
